Why Direct Sales? Why Monat? Why Now?

So now you know my big secret! 😉 And I can’t wait to share all things Monat with all of you!  I figured I’d get several questions about my recent decision to join Monat, and I wanted to go ahead and answer them all in one place!

// Why Direct Sales? //

(::big sigh::)If I’m being perfectly honest, I never thought I’d attempt direct sales again.  Last year I joined another company and quickly realized that it was just not for me.   Or at least that company’s philosophy on sales and goals were just a bit beyond what I wanted to commit to.  It just wasn’t my style.  As someone who has worked in retail almost half of her life, aggressive selling was never (and still isn’t) my strong suit.  I recently thought about my strengths when it comes to former careers and the two that stuck out most were managing a team and customer service–100%.  And as you all know, I also LOVE to share anything and everything that I LOVE.  So putting the three of those components together got me thinking, why couldn’t I be successful with direct sales? That is if I’m doing it MY WAY.  I recently found out that I can, and I found a company who is supportive of that path as well.

// Why Monat? //

Monat (short for Modern Nature) was introduced to me earlier this year by my hair stylist. A little backstory….I’ve always been one to use salon products, but I would admittedly always mix in the cheap stuff too.  Especially for styling products.  I tried a couple of Monat sample products and immediately liked them! (In case you didn’t know, Monat products are naturally based without all the harmful ingredients! You can read all about the science behind Monat here.) Though as much as that was true, I was not ready to commit to a full blown switch to using just “one” brand at that point in time. Fast forward a couple of months and I got a free sample of the Rejuvenique Oil and was like, omgee–this stuff is amazing. I literally used every damn drop in that tiny bottle!  This was also around the same time I recorded a short hair tutorial over on Instagram (saved in my highlights if you missed it!) and got a really great response from that one little video.  People seemed to really take an interest in my crazy hair! Fast forward a week or so and I finally got together with my friend, and now team leader, Rachael to not just talk about Monat, but about kids, life, and anything we could while sipping a mimosa and trying to keep up with our busy toddlers! She even washed my hair (in her kitchen sink-ha!) and tried some different products on me.  When I got home all I could think about was how great those few products made my curls look! AND how crazy it was that I was actually thinking I could promote these products! How I was in that moment SO excited at the thought of transforming my hair into something I could finally love.  It was like the stars were all aligning in my mind and after a few days of debating, talking to my hubby and a good friend, and literally trying to talk myself out of why I should do this, I finally made the decision that I was going to DO THIS.  I let Rachael know last week that, hey girlfriend…I’m in!  Eeeek!

One other thing that really helped make my decision was just how amazing the company is. Their culture, the people, the incentives. It all just aligned with what I was looking for.  Spending time with my team over the weekend simply solidified all of this.

// Why Now? //

As crazy as this is to type, October 8th marks 10 months since I left my job to stay at home with my girls.  Almost an entire year–crazy!  While it has truly been the best decision I’ve ever made, a small part of me has always felt guilty that I am no longer contributing an income to our household.  My husband has never made me feel this way, but it’s always been in the back of my mind and I always knew that I wanted to do something to supplement some of the income that we’ve lost by me staying home.  At first, it wasn’t a big deal.  All I wanted to do was focus all my time and energy on my girls and write this here blog.  Which is what I’ve done.  I’ve also been working on growing a regular following so that my blog can help supplement that income one day as well, but until then I wanted something more.  It wasn’t until recently when Josie started school that I really started thinking about how and when I would get something else in the works. Monat was not on my radar, like at all. You know, because I had my mind made up 6 months ago when I didn’t want to do any kind of direct sales. 😉 Well, let me tell you…things change.  Feelings change.  Thoughts change. Goals change. They change all the time.  I changed my mind about what I wanted and how I wanted to get there.  I saw a great opportunity and wanted to jump on it and not spend any more time dragging my feet.  So I did, and here were are!

So there you have it…”my why’s”. Not that I feel I need to explain myself…at all…to anyone, but there are too many people out there in the world that are just ready to shit on your parade any chance they get.  If you are one of those, please move along and keep your comments to yourself. What you might not understand is that anytime you take a leap of faith and put yourself out there, it is really really hard to not think what everyone else is going to say about it.  So that said, I welcome all the positive vibes and ALL the questions about these products…All. Day. Long.

I can’t quite yet tell you just how amazing ALL of the products are because I am just beginning to use Monat and only Monat products myself.  So I’ll be taking you along on my little hair transformation journey.  And if you are curious I’ll send a sample your way! Like anything else these products are not going to be an overnight fix on everything, but that’s with anything–fitness, skin, hair, etc. It all takes time.  But I will be sharing before and afters of lots of very happy customers with you along the way so you can see WHY I am taking a chance on Monat.
