I think we’re all feeling about the same these days….this quarantine life is for the birds. While 100% necessary, it’s totally no fun to not be able to leave your house and live life as normal. I think it’s a hard adjustment that we’re all coming to terms with, but this little blip of time will go by fast and we’ll all be back to our version of normal soon. In the meantime, let’s be thankful for all that we have and for all those nurses and doctors and first responders who are working daily to keep us all safe.
And since we’re all home for the time being, what better time to knock out some things you’ve been putting off. Learn something new, start a home improvement project, or hey, what about some self-care, mama?
If I’m being honest, this past couple of weeks have been rough for me emotionally. On top of adjusting to our new normal, I just happen to be growing a human. No big deal. But what has been a big deal is the worry and anxiety that has crept in lately. Which has led to my self-care falling by the wayside.
But I realized that taking care of myself IS important…physically and emotionally. And when I feel good about how I look and feel it transpires to other aspects of my life. And I need to take care of me so I can take care of everyone around me. So, if you are feeling a similar way, here are some things you can do to treat yo’self while quarantined….and even after.
Ways to Self-Care During Quarantine
Take a Walk. One of the few approved reasons to leave your house. DO IT. Go for a walk, run, bike ride. Get some fresh air, y’all! Being cooped up can be such a downer. Clearing your mind and getting some exercise is the #1 self care thing you can do for yourself. We’ve been trying to get outside daily, even if for a short stroll down the street.

Paint Your Nails. I’m not one to have my nails done all the time, however, I do enjoy some pretty freshly manicured nails. Just makes me feel a little more put together. So in between getting a set of dip nails (the best!) I will paint my own. My favorite at home polishes are the Essie Gel Couture polishes. They are easy breezy to apply and last me a minimum of 5 days with no chips…and I’m pretty hard on my hands. I don’t have the time or patience to be painting my nails every other day, which is why the gel couture is worth the few extra bucks in my opinion. Colors I’m currently loving are Pre Show Jitters and Cascade Cool and don’t forget the top coat! I’ve also heard that the Colorstreet Nails are bomb, but I haven’t tried those yet.

Take a Bath. If you are a bath person that is. One of my favorite ways to unwind (especially pregnant) is to take a nice hot bubble bath. Kick back, preferably with a glass of wine when allowed, and just s o a k. Super relaxing and always just makes me feel like I’m pampering myself.
Use a Self-Tanner. Let’s be real, most of us are pale as hell right about now. At least I know I sure am! Or was. So thank goodness for Instagram. I decided to purchase this Loving Tan self-tanner per the recommendation of two lovely ladies I follow and it did not disappoint. So over the weekend, after a shower and skin exfoliation, I applied the self-tanner. (FYI, I used a friggin sugar scrub for FEET to exfoliate my entire body…lol, do what you gotta do, right?)
But y’all….it way exceeded my expectations. It had great coverage and gave me great natural color. I opted for the dark because I tend to tan easily and don’t mind a dark shade and I’m so glad I did. For me, having a tan just makes me feel GOOD. Even if it is fake. Having that sunkissed look makes me feel a little better in my own skin. And right now, I’m totally needing that!

Slap on Some Makeup, Sister. It doesn’t take much. But for me, a little something to cover up my dark circles and pregnancy breakouts helps me to feel just a little better as I pass the mirrors in my house throughout the day. If and when I’ve applied makeup over these past couple weeks, I assure you its been a quickie 5 minute or less application.
I recently bought a couple of products from Tula that I’ve been loving. This blurring face primer is a good alternative to foundation because it’s light, yet gives a subtle coverage. I apply my Tarte Shape Tape under my eyes and over any blemishes. It’s truly the best concealer out there. Then just a tiny bit of blush, mascara, and gloss and done. Oh, I will also take a minute and fill in my brows. Now that I’ve been doing it for a while, I feel incomplete when I don’t fill them in. I also love this Cooling Eye Balm. It adds brightness and also cools which helps with eye puffiness. My eyes need all the help they can get these days, my friends!

Chapped Lips be Gone. Along with my poor hands, my lips have been majorly chapped this winter. But I picked up this EOS chapstick at Walmart a few weeks ago and it has transformed my lips. Now, I have to admit, the flavor I picked is not great. Even though I’m a sucker for anything vanilla, this really disappointed in the flavor department, however….my lips be sooooo soft and smooooooth, y’all. I’ve learned to live with the flavor. We all have to make sacrifices in life. Ha.
Whiten Your Teeth. You know I love my coffee. And though I’ve only been drinking one cup a day, I still feel like my teeth have seen better days. We already had some Crest White Strips on hand, so I put some on while blow drying my hair the other day. I swear I see an immediate difference with those things. Tan skin and white teeth….who dis?!
Try a New Hair Do. Or maybe just wash + brush your hair. No need to get all crazy or anything! But being a curly girl, having my hair straight and smooth is a TREAT. I love my Revlon Styling Brush and its a huge time saver. But I’ve also been teaching myself how to french braid the girl’s hair and eventually will be trying it on myself. Baby steps!
