It’s still hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that my baby girl, my sweet little angel face jellybean, is now officially ONE YEAR OLD. I’ve literally been super emotional over the past week and can never quite understand how the time goes as fast as it does.
The day she was born is still such a vivid memory for me. Mainly because I was able to successfully VBAC without an epidural (and for most moms that would be a vivid memory-ha!). But, for so many other reasons than that.
1-It was just me and my husband during delivery. No mom’s or other family, just us.
2- I was induced as I was with my first pregnancy, so I was a bit terrified that my body would respond the same way and I’d end up with another emergency c-section, which is exactly what I didn’t want to happen. But it didn’t and my labor, delivery, and recovery all around were SO much better than with my first.
3- I was able to hold, get that skin-to-skin contact, and nurse my baby girl immediately. I didn’t have that the first time around and in fact didn’t hold Josie for hours because my arms were numb and I was completely out of it—AND exhausted! Holding Isla was an incredible memory that I’ll always remember, and one that makes me a little sad (and mad!) that I didn’t have it with Josie.
And last but certainly not least, 4- The look on big sister, Josie’s, face when she saw her baby sister for the first time is something I will never forget. It was the proudest, happiest, and sweetest mommy moment ever. Big sister has been head over heals in love with her ever since that day and I’m praying that they always stay this close as they grow up.
The hugs, the big eyes and smiles–it just doesn’t get any better than this. #heartexplosion
Isla Belle was born at 6:57 pm on February 2, 2017 weighing in at 6 lbs 15 ounces and 20 3/4 inches long.
At her 12 month well visit today, she weighed 20 lbs 10 ounces and 29 3/4 inches long. She’s in the 50th percentile for weight and 75th for height.
12 month check up–check!
Hoping its not just my kid who tears the table paper to shreds every. stinking. time.
Big sis had to make sure Isla was okay before and after her shots. I swear she is permanently scarred for life after getting her shots a few months ago. She was so worried and probably asked the nurse/doctor 10 times if Isla had to get shots today. 🙁
Isla is growing beautifully, but left with a prescription because she has a sinus infection. Boo! 🙁 Also, I am so paranoid about this stupid flu that I washed the girls hands before leaving and doused myself with hand sanitizer at every pump I saw. Luckily I’m super good at running late, so our time in the waiting room was short lived. #lessgermsexposed #mommyforthewin
While Isla is not walking unsupported yet, she is cruising on furniture and crawling on the floor and upstairs like a champ. I don’t think it will be too much longer, but I am also a-okay with her taking her sweet time!
She’s babbling up a storm and the words we can make out are Dada, Mama, and maybe “dis” (this). Aaron swears she said “tank du” (thank you) but I haven’t heard that one yet. I also haven’t made out any specific words for Josie or Riley, but I’m sure they’ll be coming soon!
Isla loves to play with her big sister in the tub and playroom and every single toy goes in the mouth. (Hooray for Lysol!)
She has 8 teeth and is working on her first molars on the top and bottom! She puts all those teeth to good use at meal time when she’ll pretty much eat anything I put in front of her! This week I’m starting to transition her to whole milk and say bye-bye to formula, as well as making her bottles disappear. Josie was bottle-less by 13 months so I’m hoping to achieve the same with Isla.
For Isla’s birthday celebration we had a Magical Unicorn Party–you can read about it here. And then on her actual birthday we just chilled out for the day. Took some fun pictures and baked birthday cupcakes!
Birthday breakfast! And when that perfect little snot bubble is captured, it must be shared.
Big sister, ehh I mean, Princess Belle, helped bake cupcakes…and lick the spoon.
A special birthday cupcake for a special birthday girl. DIY topper by mama.
Nom. Nom. Nom.
Those eyes give me all the heart eyes. Though, is it bad that we can’t tell what her actual eye color is? Not baby blue like dad and big sis, and not brown like mom–she’s somewhere in the middle!
BALLOONS! (insert high pitched squeal of excitement!)
Right before she ripped down my photo backdrop. 😉
Birthday girl! Photo attempt 172.
Happy Birthday baby girl!
XO, Mama
