When I first started this blog I was soooo good about regular updates on the girls. Well, this year has been a whirlwind, to say the least, and even though it’s now three months after Isla’s birthday, I still wanted to give an update on our littlest little. And quickly because her older sister’s special day is just a couple weeks away! Better late than never, right?! So here it is, the Isla Belle | 3 years old update.

The last growth update was at 21 months! I did write a party post on her 2nd birthday but basically, mama has been slackin’!

Current age: 3 years 3 months 3 days
Weight: 30 lbs
Height: 3′ 2.5″ She’s grown 3″ in 1 year! (we just took fresh measurements for our growth chart so this is accurate)
I asked Isla about some of her favorite things and this is what she said….
Color: purple
Animals: baby giraffe and lions
Foods: salad, yogurt, pizza. This girl is our picky one. She really does love salad, with ranch-of course. And she loves broccoli, carrots, corn, and peas. She is hit or miss with meats, but most times she will eat what’s in front of her….just sometimes needs a little help. Oh, and she’ll never turn down a donut!

Activities: gymnastics at the Little Gym (pre-quarantine). She loooves it there and has asked about it often during our lockdown. I love it because it has helped develop her social and gross motor skills. We are trying to get her used to the balance bike and tricycle but she has yet to take to either. She does love to wear the helmet though. Haha.

But we get outside as much as possible for walks/runs, and play on the playground a lot! Isla loves to swing! Inside we color and craft quite a bit. She enjoys time on the Kindle, but she loves imaginary play with her sister and they are always up to something in the playroom. That space is used a TON in our house!

Milestones: We are still working on our ABC’s, but Isla can count to 15 (almost 20), knows all her colors and shapes and loves to read books! She is scheduled to start Preschool (3 days a week) in September and I know it’ll be SO GOOD for her. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that school can resume normally this Fall, but it’s hard to say at this point.

Isla still takes a 2 hour-ish nap almost daily. Some days we skip depending on what’s going on, but she definitely still needs her mid-day rest on most days!
Our little Miss Independent wants to do everything on her own now. Get dressed. Brush her teeth. Put on shoes. And often times on the wrong feet. It can be frustrating as the parent because we just want it DONE, but we have to embrace the desire for independence from our little ones when they express it.
She is quite the chatterbox and loves to sing! She watches every move big sister Josie makes and tries to mimic her a lot. It’s really cute. We also share videos with family on Marco Polo and she loves to see her cousins and Nana on the screen!

Isla’s vocabulary has grown SO MUCH along with that 3 year old sass. Girlfriend can be a bit much, but I know its just the stage we’re in. #threenager
Some of our favorites from the Isla-cabulary are…..
Pisshue – Tissue | Bam-Baid – Bandaid| Stank-Stank – Stinky Josaleene – Josephine | Jack-Jack – Jacket |LaLu – Water
She is SO EXCITED about the upcoming arrival of her baby sister. She’ll tell you that she, “can’t wait to hold her and kiss her, but I won’t be changing her diaper….that’s daddy’s job.” Haha. She rubs and kisses my belly on a daily basis and says….”dats a big belly, mommy!” Yes, it certainly is, baby girl.

And since we’ll be adding one more to the Rutten party late Summer, we went ahead and put the two big girls into a shared bedroom with fun bunk beds! The transition has been interesting….some nights are easier than others, but the adjustment phase from crib to big girl bed really hasn’t been bad at all. The bigger issue is the amount of giggling that happens when the lights go out. 😉

Isla loves to shake her little booty and her current favorite songs are two late 90’s hits…. “Who Let the Dogs Out” and “the Macarena”. Thanks for that one, Trolls 2!!!

Isla also really loves the water can’t wait to go swimming again! She’s been talking about our trip to the beach for months and months, which unfortunately got canceled due to COVID-19, but we will definitely be playing in the water as much as possible this summer! We got the girls an inflatable water slide and also planning on putting up our 10ft Intex pool. That way, even if we can’t leave the house, we’ll still have plenty of water fun in the backyard.
Isla has visited the dentist twice now and is NOT a fan. Same with the pediatrician. She wasn’t always like this, but has definitely developed a serious fear over the past year or so.
Well, that about wraps up our little Isla Belle update. I’m sure I’ve missed a million things I could write about that girl, but in short, she just brings so much joy to all of our lives. Her little personality is really something. She has us rolling in laughter on the daily. To know her is to love her. She’s very social and just the sweetest little pea.
