Holy moly….the last three months have flown by. No, actually the last nine have! How is my baby girl turning 2 years old in just a short 3 months away?! This can’t be. It’s just can’t.
So before I go there I just have to mention this…..I am quickly coming up on my one year anniversary as a stay at home mom and still can’t believe how blessed I’ve been to be given this opportunity to stay home with my girls. It has been the best – and fastest- year of my life. Being able to have these moments with my kiddos and document them along the way has been the coolest. I’m excited to see this little blog grow and to be able to go back and read through it when my girls are older. I’m a forgetful mom when it comes to memories (umm, hello #mombrain) so this is really helping me out in that department. And replacing those baby books I never completed in some way I suppose. 😉 Regardless, this blog holds a special place in my little heart.
Okay, back to the star of the post…sweet Isla.
Isla Belle turned 21 months old on November 2nd. Her personality continues to grow as she keeps us smiling and belly laughing on the daily with all her silly faces and dance moves.
She has a new found love of the microphone (yay.) and will pull it all around the house yelling into the mic with the volume cranked as loud as it will go.
One of her most favorite things in the whole wide world is her Dada. She looses her MIND when he walks in the door. I need to get it on video because it is the sweetest thing ever! And she just looks a tad like him, huh? 😉
She is definitely a girl who loves to snuggle with mom and dad. She will take my hand in the kitchen and pull me all the way to the couch where she taps her little hand on the cushion, like “sit mama”. Then she climbs on up, puts one little thumb in her mouth, and one little finger up her nose (someone please tell me how to break this awful habit!!) then cuddles right on up to watch her favorite Disney Jr. show. I wish I could snuggle her 24/7.
Isla seems to be a bit more adventurous than Josie was, which is a little terrifying. Like, girlfriend will climb the steps with the quickness and all you’ll hear is the gate, followed by a mini panic attack from me running as fast as I can to the stairs. Then like a flash she is down the hallway hiding from me in guest bedroom. It’s funny, but it’s not. Haha. This girl can be a handful and a half!
Speaking of adventurous….she looooves to climb. Loves it. Specifically on tables. Not our kitchen table or anything, but coffee tables, ottomans, small chairs and step stools. It’s like she feels some sense of accomplishment once she makes it up there and is standing high and proud on both feet. It’s cute for a second, then I’m like…no, no. Which is followed by the cutest little “kayyyy”…as she climbs down.
As silly as it sounds, that little “kayyyy” is the cutest thing ever. Other common words for her lately are Noooo. Mine! Peeeease. Mama. A whole lot of Dada. Jojo. Nana. Bird. Duck. Dog-dog. Meeeooow, when she spots a kitty cat. Cheeeeeese, as in, give me a slice of cheese. Minnie. Book. Spoon, minus the s. Ni-night. Lub-u. And a few other words that are mostly babble, but we can sometimes figure it out. I love this stage when she is learning to talk and can’t quite talk back yet. Before I know it she’ll be 5 years old and really telling mom all the things.
Isla is loving books and we read several throughout the day and then always one at bedtime. Brown Bear, Brown Bear and Goodnight Moon are two of our favorites lately. Josie is starting to read so she loves to read to her little sister.
Isla weighs just under 25 lbs and is wearing 24 month and 2T clothes. I have bins and bins of clothes from big sister, but a good bit of them have not worked out due to the weather. They are like one season off so jammies have been fine, but she’s needed seasonally appropriate tops and bottoms. So we’ve had to shop, darn. 😉 Shoes have definitely been something I’ve needed to purchase along the way.
We’ve had some issues in the meal department because little miss has decided to become a super picky eater over the past few months. She’s hit or miss with meat, and by that I mean it’s mostly a miss. She’ll eat the norms: apple sauce, yogurt, cheese, pasta, pizza, pb&J, eggs, avocado, corn, peas, granola bars, cereal, and then of course anything that’s in a wrapper. In fact, she gets pissed if you take anything “out” of the wrapper. But even fruit she’s throwing across the room when she used to devour it. I.e. bananas, raspberries, blueberries. She’ll eat apple slices and grapes, but everything else is a no-go lately. So yeah, I don’t get it. Either my cooking sucks or she is just a picky pants. She does like Chick-fila nuggets, but I mean…who doesn’t?! But other than eggs and yogurt I need to figure out a way to get some protein in this kid. She does like smoothies, so maybe I can start making her one of those daily to hide all the good stuff? I don’t know, but I’m hoping its just a phase that she grows out of soon. Her sister was always a good eater so that’s all I have to compare it too.
It’s no secret that Josie and Isla have the sweetest sister bond. I never had a sister, but living through them has been so much fun. And honestly when Daddy’s not home we are like the 3 musketeers! I love seeing them play together, dance and sing, and just chase each other through the house, giggling all the way. Josie is also a super helpful big sister and is always trying to help Isla do things and learn the way. We are really working on sharing lately, but again, two of her favorite words are “Noooo. & Mine!”, so you can imagine how that’s going.
Isla is my emotional girl and when she doesn’t get her way she’ll quickly let us know about it. She’ll curl that little lip and bury her head into our lap or the couch if she’s needing attention. She’s also quick to pick up on other’s emotions and recognizes happy, sad, pain, mad, etc. She knows when big sister has a boo-boo and is quick to come give her a hug and a kiss to make her feel better.
As we approach the 2 year mark I’m wondering if and when this girl is going to ninja climb out of her crib, like her sister did at 2. Which means we need to start thinking about a toddler bed transition soon. Omg, this can’t all be happening so soon!?!
Our next update will come on her 2nd birthday! It’s the first weekend in February, and with the holiday craziness already beginning I’ve started to think about her birthday party some, but until I can get a handle on my holiday stuff, it will have to take a back burner. But I’m thinking of an Oh-Two-doodles Party because she loves Minnie Mouse, or a Pj’s & Pancakes Party. Or maybe a combo of the two? I love to plan me a party! And another one of my baby girls birthdays are the most-funnest-ever to plan. But until then…
We love you so much sweet girl!
