Life with Isla lately has been nothing short of an adventure! This girl is already very strong willed and curious, which is a dangerous combo. She takes after her older sister in a lot of ways, but definitely has a different personality and way of getting what she wants. Its called screaming. Very LOUD screaming. Screaming at home. Screaming in public. Girlfriend has a set of pipes on her and mama can’t deal.
But screaming aside, she is also very sweet and gives the best hugs and kisses. She is a handful at times, but the best handful of love I could have possibly been given.
Isla had her 18 month check up this week and is still “growing beautifully” as quoted by our pediatrician. She weighed in at 23.8 lbs and 32.5 inches tall. She gained less than a pound since her 15 month check up, but an inch and a half in height. 25th percentile in weight, 75th in height. Healthy baby girl!
Her vocabulary is growing with her favorite word being “Maaaaaaaahhhmaaaah”. Screamed as loud as possible, of course. 😉 There is a whole lot that she is communicating that we have no clue what she is saying. But they are legit sentences and she sounds like a little asian lady telling someone off half the time! Haha. So we are convinced that when she does start talking clearly, she’s going to talk our faces off. It’s pretty cute at the moment and she makes us laugh on the daily.
Her fine motor skills are getting stronger and she insists on using a fork or spoon at meal times. She loves to look at books and turn the pages. Stacking blocks, throwing balls, and using a crayon are some other skills we’ve been working on.
Isla loves to sing and dance, just like big sis. She is a big fan of ring around the rosie, itsy bitsy spider, head shoulders knees and toes, and various other childrens songs! She sways side to side when you sing twinkle twinkle little star. It’s nothing short of adorable.
We’ve been practicing body parts and she knows where her head, tummy, ears, eyes, mouth, and nose are. We started the little munchkin voice when squeezing her nose, so now she wants to do it to everyone elses noses. But you have to talk like a munchkin or she won’t let go!
Isla loves to be in the water so we had lots of fun on our summer adventures.
She still soaks us at bathtime and thinks its hilarious to splash as hard as she possibly can.
“Maaaaaaaahhhmaaaah” 😉
She loves doggies and will scream “dooooooooog” and point with the straightest little finger whenever she spots one!
Her stair climbing skills are getting stronger along with my mini heart attacks. Just get a baby gate at the bottom of your steps, you say? Well, that would just be too easy and too much work apparently because after 5 years of having kids we still don’t have one! We bring this stress on ourselves! She also likes to climb on stools and has recently been fighting big sis for a spot on the stool to look in the mirror. I think its time for a bigger stool to fit them both!
Isla is currently wearing 18 month clothing, but with cooler temps rolling in soon, I’ll be busting out the bins in the basement to go through all of Josie’s 24 month hand-me-downs. I didn’t get rid of anything and I’m so glad I didn’t!
There are a whole lotta teeth in that mouth but she won’t let me get my fingers in for an accurate count. Though she’s been cutting a molar or two for the past month or so because she’s been a drooly mess!
She’s become a much pickier eater over the past couple of months which makes meal time a little more challenging. She still loves pasta, yogurt smoothies, applesauce, cheese, hummus, veggie straws, carrots, broccoli, just to name a few. She gets picky with meats, and I haven’t figured out what or why because she’s not consistent with what she wants. Like one day she’ll like chicken and then next want nothing to do with it. Still trying to figure her out!
We are a week strong of cutting out her bedtime bottle and its been going well! We kinda did the cold turkey method, but I wasn’t sure how else to do it. Josie was off ALL bottles by 13 months, so we went way longer with Isla out of convenience I think. I also think she was more attached to the bottle than the milk because when I give her the same temperature milk in a sippy cup she wants nothing to do with it. So instead of bath/bottle for nighttime, we’ve started bath/teeth brushed/book and she’s gone right to bed every night without it. Bye-bye bottles!
Speaking of bedtime, Isla is a great sleeper. Bedtime is between 6:30-7:30pm and she’ll sleep until 7am, if not later some mornings. She takes a mid-day nap for 2-3 hours as well.
Isla and Josie are best buds and I love watching their relationship grow! I never had a sister, so I’m living through them 100%.
Her next check up will be at her 24 month checkup. 2 Years Old?! Ughhhhh…just saying that out loud makes me a little sad. Time seriously needs to slow down. Keep my baby a baby just a little bit longer please.
There’s just something about a sleeping baby snoozing on her daddy. All the heart eyes from this mama! 😍
