The day of love is right around the corner! This year, I decided to jump on the “Galentine’s Day” bandwagon because I absolutely LOVE the idea of spreading a little extra love…not only our significant others, but to my girls as well. And why does it only have to be celebrated on February 14th? We’ve been spreading the love for at least a week or so and wanted to share some of our fun!
First up are valentine crafts for our cousins. I found this cute little kit in the dollar spot at Target and thought it would be a fun project for Josie to work on by herself. Despite the little pompoms flying everywhere and sticking to her shirt sleeves, it was a fun craft for her.
I encourage her to write out names as often as possible. One for practice, but two, I think all of those sideways and backwards letters are so adorable.
Food can be fun too without a lot of extra work! Because believe me, I don’t have time for complicated. Though, it really doesn’t take much effort to turn something basic into something pretty and fun with a good ol’ fashioned cookie cutter…like a sandwich or these quesadillas.
Just cut your shape of choice. You can even just use a knife if you are good like that…I prefer the cookie cutter! I got this cute little set of minis from the Pampered Chef.
Fill with whatever your kids will eat. I did black bean and cheese here, but will do chicken and will even sneak in spinach sometimes. Josie doesn’t really notice the extra veggies when she’s covering each bite in sour cream! 😉
Cook for a minute or two on each side until melty and a little crusty. And yum! A perfect lunch (or dinner in this case) that is full of love without a lot of extra effort.
Next, I found this cute banner with hearts and arrows at Home Goods (only $6.99!) that I thought would be perfect on our mantle for our upcoming Galentine’s Day Party! I also added a few other little “love themed” items I already had around the house. I’m always rearranging decor I already have to freshen up different areas of the house–without spending the extra money. Did I mention I’m kinda cheap? The cute little gold “X-O” is actually from a huge tic-tac-toe set we have…but it works, right? 🙂
I also like using similar colors in decor, but with different textures. My preferred style these days leans more towards the modern farmhouse chic, thanks to my Fixer Upper obsession. With a good bit of white, black, gray, and natural colors throughout my house.
This cozy little scene is the perfect backdrop for hanging in your jammies all day! Which seems to be a theme around my house these days.
Last night we had a “Gal”entine’s Day Party with some of Josie’s BFFs from school. Since pulling her out of pre-school back in December, we haven’t had too many play-dates or opportunities to see her friends, so I thought this would be the perfect way to catch up with her gal pals!
In between playing dress up and exchanging valentines….they drank pink lemonade, made their own heart shaped pizzas, and had heart shaped rice crispy treats for dessert. It was a sweet evening full of good company.
Aaron made fun of my chalkboard art! A little cheesy, yes…but hey, I never said I was an artist–ha!
Mom’s deserve to have some fun too!
Cheers to friends!
The pink lemonade was a hit! Though, we quickly switched to water after it was gone. 😉
All the “gals” hard at work preparing their pizzas.
How cute are these pizzas?! Heart shaped cookie cutter and mini pepperoni for the win!
To end the evening, Daddy came home after being gone for 3 days! We were SO happy to see him! 🙂 Aaron and I decided that we’ll be having a low-key Valentine’s Day this year–at home with our babes, the best place to be.
What are you doing to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year?
