If you’ve been following along for a while you know that I recently completed a plank wall in our front sitting room. Check out the DIY post here!
Since taking on this project I’ve been determined to complete this room with furniture and decor to avoid it sitting empty another 3 years! This week I finally made some decisions on the look I want and thought I’d share my inspiration board with you.
Now, I’ve included “budget friendly” in the title of this post because I do feel that on average, to furnish a room completely, staying in the $1,000 range IS on the lower end. Though I do understand everyone’s budget and opinion on this will be different. I like nice things, but don’t like paying thousands on furnishings…especially with young children in the house! So the majority of these items are coming from Target, Wayfair, or World Market–all of which I think have good prices for decent quality furniture and decor.
Also, remember….when you are redecorating a space, you don’t have to buy everything at once. Maybe just a piece or two every month so the cost is more budget friendly. If I’m being honest, even though we allotted some tax money for this room, it still pains me a little once I get to the checkout. Though, I rarely ever make a purchase without some kind of coupon or additional savings, free shipping, etc.–so pay attention to the deals and strike when they are hot! The savings can definitely add up. 🙂

If you follow me on Instagram, I shared a poll on Instastories whether or not to paint our other walls the same Alabaster White or keep the plank wall as a total accent. Well, the results were 50/50 so no help really! Haha, jk! But for now, I’ve just decided to keep the existing mustard yellow walls. I’ll make the final decision on whether to paint or not to paint once the room is furnished and I can see everything come together. But for that reason, I’ve kept the decor colors more neutral, and have incorporated in some blue which is new to my home–at least on my first floor. (Our Master BR is ALL BLUE and I’ve been dying to paint in there!)
Also, I may have mentioned that we will have a corner of this room set up as a small home office area to get our desk out of the guest bedroom, and to give me an area on the main level to handle my bloggin’ biznass and watch after my kiddos during the day. That said, the space needed to be cozy and welcoming and also functional. The sitting room connects to the play room with french doors, which we open up quite often when company is over. The kiddos usually run circles around the house and from room-to-room so I didn’t want to clutter the space with a ton of furniture. The poof ottomans double as additional seating so I think it will be perfect.
I’m digging the casual homey vibes these pieces are giving me. The sofa table and chairs are probably my favorite things in the room. The table will go right along the plank wall and will be a fun place to decorate for holidays. The rug ties in the blues and the mustard yellow from the walls and I’m absolutely loving all the natural wood elements. I’ve wanted an over-sized clock for sometime now and I think that room will be the perfect place to hang one. The cute baskets will help store all the miscellaneous things (i.e. toys!) and throw blankets. Lastly, I know the tassel and pom-poms are super trendy right now, but I think they are so cute! I don’t foresee getting tired of those for a while.

I’m excited to see it all come together and will share a final picture once I’m done….that is once I can get over spending SO much money at ONE TIME. Eeek! That is partly the reason why I’ve stalled on this space over the past few years. Have I mentioned I’m an el’ cheapo?!? 😉</
I want to know….what’s the one (or more) spaces in your house that you just can’t get together? Leave me a comment below!
