Who’s ready for Fall?! Meeeeeee!!! That’s right, I’m one of those that when August hits I’m so ready for all the pumpkins and cool weather. Mostly, I’m looking forward to some front porch sitting when its not a thousand degrees and crazy humid. We have a cozy little front porch that is perfect for all the neighborhood watching I could ever dream of! But it also gives me time to appreciate our home and all the work we’ve put into over the years to make it ours, and make it better.
Curb appeal is important to my husband and I. We take pride in our house, and try to keep things tidy and landscaping under control. We have our lawn treated so our grass is typically green and lush without lots of weeds and it really does make a huge difference. But landscaping aside, there are so many low budget things you can do to spiffy up the exterior of your home without breaking the bank. Here are just a few of mine…..starting with my most favorite Amazon purchase EVA!
//Garage Door Hardware//
I’m just going to go ahead and say that this is my most favorite Amazon purchase EVER! I love the farmhouse look and when I came across these magnetic carriage accents I just had to order them! They compliment our black door, shutters, light fixtures, etc. and just make our boring old garage doors a tad bit prettier. We’ve had them on for at least a year now and I’ve only had to adjust them once. Totally budget friendly too–mine were less than $20 for a full set. Check them out here.
//Planters//
Adding some pretty flowers or greenery to a fun pot is one of the simplest things you can do to spruce up your front porch. You don’t even need a front porch, even just a step or around your garage looks nice.
//Furniture//
We are lucky to have a covered front porch area so last year we invested in a cute little conversation set and rug. It has been the best purchase area and I’m smacking myself for not using this area sooner!
//Paint your mailbox//
Depending on what kind of mailbox you have….ours is wood and painted black to match our shutters and light fixtures. Normal weathering requires us to paint every year or two and it’s as simple as buying a can of spray paint and cleaning it up.
//Replace house #’s//
These can get rusted or faded over time so replacing these is also a low cost way to spiffy up your curb appeal and make it easier for visitors to find your house.
//Light Fixtures//
The previous owners of our house purchased these beautiful black lantern light fixtures that I LOVE. The touches of black really tie together nicely. Though ours have faded pretty bad over time. Last year my husband took all of these down and spray painted them black. Made a huge difference and now they look brand new. Well, that is when we don’t find bird poop on them! Also, make sure your light fixtures have bulbs that work. Additional lighting around pathways and flowerbeds also look nice, if it works with your budget.
//Power-wash your siding//
We have vinyl siding and it does get dirty over time. Power-washing every couple years helps keep it looking clean. We are due this year!
//Cut & Water your grass//
No one likes seeing grass that’s a foot tall or a crispy yellow and brown yard. Though inevitably we’ll all end up with it before the summer is over! Setting a sprinkler out in the early morning helps give your lawn some much needed H2O. Regular cuts keep your lawn looking neat and healthy. Though if you live in VA you probably haven’t had much brown grass becuase we’ve had soooooooooooo much rain this summer!
//Pick up toys, tools, misc.//
One of my pet peeves is seeing a bunch of sh*t in someones front yard. Toys, lawn chairs, grills, trash, etc. Clean that crap up people! Your neighbors appreciate it!
//Door Mat//
There are so many cute door mats out there that add some character to your front porch. I also love the layered mat look, placing a colorful mat beneath a cute message.
Our Happy Place mat from Target. I like the layered mat look, and since our base mat doesn’t really clean/dry shoes, this works better as an entry mat. And something I can easily swap out seasonally. Also, any other essential oil fans out there?!
//Wreath//
Spruce up your front door seasonally with a colorful wreath! Buy one or DIY your little heart out and make your own.
Mine is wayyyy old, so I’ll definitely be updating for fall!
I hope this list offers you a little bit of inspiration! And if anything, check out those garage door accents! I’m seriously obsessed.
